Profile

Located on the eastern bank of the Cagayan River in the southern part of Cagayan Province, Tuguegarao City is accessible by land through the Maharlika Highway and by air through its own domestic airport. Its neighboring towns are Iguig in the north, Penablanca in the northeast, Enrile in the south, and Solana in the west. Situated 450 kilometers north of Manila, it takes around 45 minutes to reach it by plane or 9 hours by car. It takes 7 hours drive from Laoag City and 10 hours from Baguio City.

Most of people of Tuguegarao are Ilocanos. Ibanags, and other cultural groups from the Cordillera make up the minority. The city celebrates the Pav-vurulun Festival to showcase the people's unity for a better city. It features street dancing, cultural presentation, beauty pageant, Pancit-eating contest, and sports competition.

The City is partly urban and partly rural. The urban areas contain the commercial and residential districts while the rural areas are located in the fringes of the city proper. Main farm products are rice, rootcrops, vegetables, poultry, and hogs. There are some fishponds within city limits and the Cagayan River provides some of the fish supplies of the residents. Like many other small cities in the Philippines, industries consist mostly of furniture and automotive shops, hollowblock making, bakeries, rice mills, dressmaking, and food processing. Paseo Reale Mall was put up by the provincial government to provide a venue with which small busineses can showcase their products and services. Other shopping sites include the Central Market and FCI Citimall

Business Opportunities

The city is an ideal location for regional or provincial branches of big companies. Farm-related businesses especially feed milling and food processing have great potential for growth. The art of making noodles should be modernized to produce in commercial quantities the distinctive PANCIT BATIL BATUNG brand especially made in Tuguegarao and develop it for the export market. As the trading hub of the province, it would do well to invest in the real estate potential of the city especially in the new development site in the western part of the city. Finally, the presence of many intitutions of higher learning makes it imperative to jumpstart the technological ascendance of this northern city by investing in business process outsourcing and other technology related ventures.
