Masbate City is located on the north coast of Masbate Island sandwiched between the municipalities of
Baleno and Mobo. It was created by virtue of R.A. 8807 and was officially proclaimed by the Commission on Election as a
component city on September 30, 2000. It forms part of the second congressional district.
St. Anthony of Padua is the patron Saint of the city and a festival is celebrated every
June 13th of the year in his honor. Another festival is celebrated every 30th of September - the Lapay Bantigue Dance Festival.
This is to coincide with the City Anniversary. The third festival in the city is the Rodeo Masbateno - the only rodeo show in Asia.
The city can be reached by air or by sea transportation. It can also be reached by car or other land transportation
via the Strong Republic Nautical Highway as it passes through the Port of Masbate.
The economy of the city find its strength in being the seat of the provincial government and having one of the finest
harbors in the country. It has become the trading hub of the entire province. Modern telecommunication facilities are available.

crops. The marine and fishery resources of the city and the abundance of cattle in the province can be tapped to provide raw materials
