The capital of Zamboanga Del Norte Province, Dipolog City is located on
the northern coast of Zamboanga Peninsula. It is bounded on the north by Dapitan City, on
the east by the towns of Polanco and Pinan, on the south by Katipunan, and on the west by Sulu Sea. It has an area
of 241.1 square kilometers which are mostly rural areas. Terrain is characterized
by coastal plain with gently rolling hills in the eastern part. There are several rivers and creeks traversing the city, most notable among them
is Dipolog River. The city is accessible by land through the western nautical highway via Dapitan City and by air through its own domestic airport.
The P'gsalabuk Festival is celebrated in the city on the third week of May to foster unity among the cultural groups residing in the city
particularly the Subanons, Moros, and migrants from Visayas and Luzon. It is held to coincide with the feast of Saint Vincent Ferrer,
the patron saint of Dipolog. Another festival, Dahunog sa Dipolog, is celebrated to coincide with the feast of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary
on October 7 every year.
Farming and fishing are the main economic engine of the local economy. However, industrialization is slowly inching its way into this
tranquil city. Dipolog is now famous for its bottled Spanish sardines which are being exported. Cottage industries produce abaca
sheets, bamboo and nito crafts, novelty items and other handicrafts. Its Pasalubong Center is full of assorted merchandize made by
skilled Dipolognons and Zamboanguenos.
Business Opportunities
The population maybe small for large enterprises but including the population of nearby Dapitan City and the
surrounding towns, Metro Dipolog's population will balloon to around 300 thousand. Aside from this fact, Dipolog is also the seat
of the provincial government and its road network leads to all areas of Zamboanga Peninsula Region. It has rich fishing ground
and the surrounding towns have vast tracks of land suitable for agriculture. The city in particular is outside the typhoon belt.
