Cataingan is a 3rd class municipality located on the eastern coast of Masbate Province.
It is bounded on the north by the town of Palanas, on the east by Samar Sea, on the south by Pio V. Corpuz, and on the west by Placer.
It has a total land area of 224 square kilometers and is politically subdivided into 36 barangays.
