Around 112 kilometers south of Manila, Batangas City is located on the southwestern coast
of Batangas Province. Neighboring towns are San Pascual on the northwest,
San Jose on the north, Ibaan on the northeast, and Lobo on the southeast. It has a total land area of 283 square kilometers and is composed of 105 barangays.

The city is home to one of the busiest ports in the country, being the gateway to the Visayas and Mindanao particularly to the
famous resort town of Puerto Galera. This port is a major destination of inter-island
as well as international ships.
Batangas City is the most populous among the three cities of Batangas Province but it is second to
Calamba among the cties of Calabarzon Region. Majority of the
population are Tagalogs with some migrants from other ethnic groups. Roman Catholics outnumber those belonging to other
religions such as the Iglesia Ni Cristo, Aglipayans,
Jehovah Witnesses, Evangelicals, and Moslems. The City celebrates the Subli-an Festival which was originally held
to honor the Holy Cross but later an indigenous dance called Subli was incorpotated.

Manila-based SM malls and Makro have one branch each in the city.
